VARTA Storage and E-One Moli Energy (Moli) have announced a collaborative relationship to develop the European market for high performance Lithium-Ion-Battery (LiB) applications. With the new cooperation the companies will meet the demand for LiB’s in high performance Lithium-Ion cells. The demand arises from major cell vendors and large scale energy storage applications. VARTA Storage, […]
Lockheed Martin has signed an agreement to supply its GridStar Lithium energy storage system to ComEd, Illinois’ largest electric utility. The 2-MWh system will be integrated into ComEd’s Bronzeville community microgrid project in Chicago. A microgrid is a small power grid with defined boundaries that can operate both when connected to the larger electrical grid and as an “island” when […]
In this episode of Energy Works, we spoke with John Schaaf, VP and GM of Johnson Controls’ distributed energy storage business. He shared what his company has learned so far in three years in the energy storage business, along with his thoughts on FERC Order 841 and the overall industry.
We spoke with Martin Hermann, CEO and founder of solar developer 8minutenergy. Prior to founding the company in 2008, Martin worked with solar panel manufacturer Advent Solar, and even owned a semiconductor tools company which he sold to Intel. Martin provided some great insight on the solar and storage markets.
Babcock & Wilcox MEGTEC (B&W MEGTEC) has signed a partnership agreement with Magnis Resources Limited and Charge CCCV (C4V) to provide its GigaCoater wide-web coating line for manufacturing lithium-ion battery electrodes for use in future Magnis and C4V manufacturing projects. “The lithium-ion battery production market represents one of B&W MEGTEC’s best growth opportunities,” said Kenneth Zak, senior […]
Lockheed Martin and Cypress Creek Renewables have commissioned 12 MWh of GridStar Lithium energy storage systems for 12 solar-plus-storage projects. The solar-plus-storage system will provide clean electricity to communities served by Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) in southeastern North Carolina. Lockheed Martin’s GridStar technology ensures that this power is rapidly dispatchable — a key benefit that allows Brunswick […]
Soteria Battery Innovation Group is forming a consortium to make its new lithium-ion battery architecture available to every battery manufacturer worldwide. By eliminating excess metal and thermally unstable components of the battery, the new architecture virtually eliminates the possibility of the self-ignition that has plagued lithium-ion batteries in applications — such as hoverboards, smart phones, electric […]
